Over 74 “Vinh Nghiem Tung Thu” Bookcases Donated Across Temples and Schools
The “Vĩnh Nghiêm Tùng Thư” Bookcase Project: Spreading Buddhist Knowledge and Culture
A Nationwide Initiative to Enhance Cultural Reading and Buddhist Education
From April 20, 2023, to June 30, 2023, Long Hưng Temple embarked on a significant project, distributing the “Vĩnh Nghiêm Tùng Thư” bookcases to 74 temples and schools, along with thousands of Buddhist books monthly to 108 temples and 44 Buddhist study libraries. This initiative is part of the “Spreading Buddhist Books” project, which aims to donate “Vĩnh Nghiêm Tùng Thư” bookcases to temples and “Happiness Bookcases” to schools, initiated by Long Hưng Temple.
The Importance of Promoting Reading Culture
Recognizing the importance of preserving and developing a culture of reading in daily life, Long Hưng Temple sees this project as crucial for building an educated, ethical, and idealistic community. This effort contributes to creating a prosperous and beautiful homeland and country.
Bridging Generations through Buddhist Teachings
The project also focuses on developing Buddhist literature, continuing the legacy of Buddhist ancestors in spreading the Dharma. It helps the Buddhist community, including monks, nuns, and laypeople, to access Buddhist texts and teachings. The project aims to apply these teachings to daily life for a more joyful and happy existence.
The Launch of the Bookcase Donation Project
On April 20, 2023, Long Hưng Temple initiated the project to donate “500 Vĩnh Nghiêm Tùng Thư” bookcases to rural temples lacking library resources and “500 Happiness Bookcases” to primary and secondary schools. In just two months, 74 bookcases filled with thousands of Buddhist and life-skills books, including educational comics, were distributed nationwide.
Impactful Stories and Aspirations
Venerable Thích Vạn Lợi of Long Hưng Temple and the Deputy Director of the International Buddhist Translation Center shared the vision behind the project. The initiative was born from the understanding that in today’s materially fulfilled life, people seek to enhance and care for their spiritual lives through meditation, reading, and exploring Buddhist scriptures for peace and happiness.
The project aims to spread and develop a “reading culture,” an important task aligned with the government’s efforts to cultivate Vietnamese culture with strong national identity. Enhancing reading culture is seen as a way to elevate knowledge and spiritual life.
Extending the Gift of Knowledge
In addition to this project, for many years, Long Hưng Temple has been regularly donating thousands of Buddhist books to 108 temples, 10 prisons, 64 hospitals, 44 schools, and Buddhist research institutions, aiming to support their research and study of Buddhist teachings.
Embracing Books as Meaningful Gifts
Long Hưng Temple encourages the selection of books as meaningful gifts for every child, emphasizing the importance of nurturing knowledge and inspiration. At Sách Tốt Đẹp, they are proud to offer unique, creative, and culturally rich interactive books, carefully curated in content and imagery, providing exciting and engaging experiences for children.
