Binh Duong’s Young Teacher Offers Free Education to Underprivileged Children
Trương Chấn Sang, 27 years old, from Binh Duong province, started his life as an orphan, relying on meals from a local pagoda. However, he persevered through adversity to become an excellent teacher and established a free teaching program for underprivileged children.
Born in Tan Uyen City, Binh Duong, into a financially struggling family, Sang faced significant challenges during his 8th-grade year when he lost his father and older brother to severe illness. Additionally, he experienced a life-threatening accident during the same year, leaving him in a coma for over a month.
“”I had a very serious accident that required emergency care at Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. I heard my mother recount that the doctors said that if we had been a little late, they might not have been able to save me. Thanks to the teachers, friends at school, who cared and donated money to help me cover the hospital expenses because our family was facing extreme financial difficulties,”” Sang shared.
Despite growing up in poverty, Sang had a reputation for being a talented student, especially in English, within his community. He actively participated in extracurricular activities at school and within his class. His love for the English language drove him to excel in this subject, with the dream of one day standing at the front of a classroom.
After graduating from high school, Sang passed the entrance exam for the English Language program at a university in Binh Duong. He borrowed money from relatives to pursue this education and obtained an international English teaching certificate to fulfill his dream of becoming an excellent English teacher.
In 2018, after completing his university studies, Sang began teaching English to children in Tan Uyen City (Binh Duong). Later, he taught at the Youth Activities Center in Binh Duong. Thanks to his engaging teaching style, smart communication, and humor, his classes became immensely popular, and the number of students steadily grew each year, reaching over 2,000 students to date.
Supporting Underprivileged Children
Having once relied on the kindness of the pagoda for meals, this young teacher decided to bring the English language closer to eager but underprivileged students. Having grown up in a challenging family environment and experienced loss, he understood the deep desire of many underprivileged students to attend school and fulfill their dreams. This drove Sang to establish free English teaching classes.
At the English community club, in addition to providing free lessons to underprivileged students, Sang and his associates regularly organize volunteer activities. Over the years, this young teacher has realized and spread many values of love, with a total value of over 3 billion VND, from various sources. He mostly uses the funds he earns to purchase clothing and study materials for underprivileged children in the Northwestern and Central Highlands provinces, among others.
