Van Lien Temple’s Generous Vu Lan Gifts for the Cham Community

On the morning of August 13th, at Van Hanh Monastery (P. Tam Phu, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), a solemn ceremony was held to celebrate the Vu Lan Festival and offer alms to monks.

The ceremony was attended by Venerable Thich Dat Niem, Venerable Thich Nhut Giac, and the Representative Board of the Buddhist Sangha of Thu Duc City; Venerable Thich Minh Truyen, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Thu Duc City, along with venerable monks from various monasteries in and around Thu Duc City.

During the ceremony, Venerable Thich Dat Niem, on behalf of the venerable monks, explained the significance of the Vu Lan Festival – a time to express gratitude and uphold the tradition of filial piety in Buddhism. The ceremony also included the offering of alms to the monks by Buddhist devotees.

The venerable monks continued to chant the Vu Lan sutra with great solemnity in the main hall. The ceremony followed traditional practices.

On this occasion, the monks also organized a solemn ceremony to release animals, pray for the deceased, and offer blessings for both the living and the deceased during the Vu Lan season – a time to express gratitude.

* On the same day, at Hue Nghiem Pagoda (Thu Duc City), the monks distributed 250 gift packages, each valued at 500,000 VND (including noodles, rice, oil, salt, sugar, soy sauce…) and envelopes containing 100,000 VND.

Venerable Thich Minh Truyen, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee and Head of the Dharma Committee of Thu Duc City; Venerable Thich Le Phu, Standing Member of the Permanent Council of the Executive Committee of Thu Duc City, and the abbot of Hue Nghiem Pagoda, together with Buddhist followers and philanthropists, presented gifts to members of the Blind Association and those in difficult circumstances in Ward Binh Tho; 25 gift packages were given to Thien Duc Nursing Home, Ward Hiep Binh Chanh, and 20 gift packages were given to Hoa Nghiem Pagoda, District Binh Thanh.
