Autistic Boy Authors Book to Aid Fellow Autistic Children

Professor Mike Chan, Diagnosed with Autism at Six, Authors Book and Raises Funds for Autistic Children

On July 4, at the European Wellness Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City, an event took place for the signing and donation of the book “Autism Spectrum Disorders: Regenerative Medicine through Stem Cell Therapy.” The event was attended by experts and educators from hospitals and specialized education centers in Ho Chi Minh City. Many were surprised to learn that Professor Mike Chan, the leader of the research and author of the book, was himself autistic.

A Childhood with Autism and a Single Mother

Currently serving as the chairman of European Wellness, an European healthcare system, Professor Chan shared his personal story during the book signing event. He grew up with a single mother in a financially challenged family, often uncertain about the next meal.

Diagnosed around the 1960s when he was six, Professor Chan exhibited symptoms common in autistic children today. At that time, autism was largely misunderstood. He faced challenges in communication and articulation.

However, he also had extraordinary abilities, like detailed drawing. For example, while other children might draw a car or a victim of a traffic accident, Mike would meticulously depict the entire scene in great detail.

From his experiences, Professor Chan believes that autistic children primarily face deficits in various skills.

After starting a family, he traveled to many countries, meeting autistic children with pitiable conditions. This led him to collaborate with his colleagues at European Wellness on extensive research into autism spectrum disorders, applying stem cell therapy for treatment and support.

Professor Chan has visited over 80 countries to share knowledge on this topic. However, many Asian countries, including Vietnam, are still unfamiliar with advanced stem cell research, where over 700 types of cells are studied globally, including more than 60 for the brain.

Stem Cells Offering New Treatment Avenues for Autism Spectrum Disorders

With this scientific approach, Professor Chan advises parents to observe their children’s symptoms, behaviors, and emotions for tailored treatments through different stem cell supplements.

On June 12, Professor Chan and his colleagues visited several autism support centers in Ho Chi Minh City and decided to implement a series of practical programs to assist autistic children in Vietnam. Specifically, the European Wellness group has allocated 5 billion VND for therapy for financially challenged autistic children. European Wellness Vietnam has also contributed 2 billion VND to support activities such as equipment procurement and expert assistance.

On July 4, Professor Chan signed and donated books to hospitals and centers treating autism spectrum disorders. He also launched a fundraising campaign, calling for philanthropic support to help these children integrate into the community. He emphasized the importance of parents monitoring their children’s symptoms, behaviors, and emotions to choose appropriate interventions and treatments.
